From WWD: The films in competition at the next Sundance Film Festival won’t be announced until the middle of this week, but insiders are already saying that R.J. Cutler’s documentary about
Vogue has a good shot at making the cut. Announced in December 2006, the documentary was produced by A&E Indie Films and focused on the preparation for the magazine’s September 2007 issue, with the full cooperation of editor in chief Anna Wintour and staff.
Meanwhile, Mattel is really going to town with Barbie's 50th birthday celebrations. On top of the company's three-year partnership with the CFDA/Fashion Week, and being outfitted by the likes of Zac Posen, Barbie is following in the footsteps of
Mary-
Kate and
Ashley Olsen and
releasing a book (imaginatively called
Barbie, it contains dioramas of Barbie at work and play bound between hot-pink covers... of course!). Methinks Barbie's influence has been more pervasive than the
Olsens' (yeah, she's also about 30 years older, but Mattel still sells three of her every second!), but only time will tell if this one sells. At $500 a piece, Santa's going to bestow this one on the
really good girls.
