>> Little Olsen girls forced to give in to terrorist organization demands.
I find it totally reprehensible that the Olsens were forced to capitulate in the face of the terrorist demands by the out of control NLC. If there is a labor problem in a country, it is up to THAT country to solve it, not Mary-Kate or Ashley or anyone else. Protest against Bangladesh if you have a problem with Bangladesh. You got it dude!? >
Listen to the NLC's feeble excuses for their terrorist tactics:
"This is not an attack against Mary-Kate and Ashley; it's an appeal," said Charlie Kernaghan, the director of the National Labor Committee.
An "appeal?" Sounds like BinLadenSpeak to me:
"Terrorism can be commendable, and it can be reprehensible. The terrorism we practice is of the commendable kind for it is directed at the tyrants..."
Osama bin Laden
to journalist John Miller, 1998
Sound similar?
"This is the great gap in the world today," Kernaghan said. "[The Olsens] have that power, that visibility. There is so much good they could do for the world."
That is so insulting it makes me want to scream. How dare him! The Olsens, according to their spokesman Michael Pagnotta, "...stand for workers for everywhere," and do a tremendous amount of charity work. The NLC and their NYU student lackeys don't have the right to force them to choose theirs.
Here's another who agrees:
And here's another:Gentle reader, if the biggest complaint about working conditions in third world countries is now whether or not factory workers get months of paid maternity leave, isn't it time to stop fighting? Paid maternity leave is hardly convict labor or dangerous working conditions, even to almost the craziest of lefties. Shame on Mary-Kate and Ashley for bowing to the pressure so willingly. And shame on the National Labor Committee for wasting their time on non-issues like this (instead of, say, the crisis of illegal immigration -- something which really harms workers).
And cheers to Wal-Mart on not caving in against this ridiculous pressure campaign. Christmas is coming soon; why not shop at Wal-Mart to show your support for sensible management policies and resistance to leftist nonsense? (It appears that if you order this week, you can still get delivery by Christmas Eve).
Or, better yet, make a donation in a loved one's name to a worthwhile, sensible charitable organization -- and send a lump of coal to the National Labor Committee.
We don't mean to be obvious, but presumably among the criteria defining a "sweatshop" is that its workers actually, uh, sweat. So when hip-hop impresario Sean "P. Diddy" Combs found himself accused of exploiting Honduran workers who are "hot" and "sweating" as they turn out his Sean John line of designer clothing, we called the factory ourselves. Turns out that among the things that distinguish the Southeast Textiles factory (Setisa) from competitors around the world is this: It's air-conditioned.
This tale, moreover, turns out to be about a lot more than one celebrity and his fashion line. It is the latest example of American union activists trying to shake down a celebrity to become a recruit for their anti-free trade agenda. The people who suffer as a result are the Hondurans for whom textile jobs are a rare opportunity up from poverty.None of this will come as any surprise to those familiar with Charles Kernaghan, the man behind the allegations against Mr. Combs. As executive director of the National Labor Committee, Mr. Kernaghan excels at this kind of media frenzy. After first leaking his accusations to the New York Times, Mr. Kernaghan staged a well-publicized press event outside a soon-to-be-opened Sean John shop on Fifth Avenue. There he produced a 19-year-old former Setisa factory hand who detailed the exploitation she alleges goes into a Sean John shirt.
Staged just before Mr. Combs's charity run this weekend in the New York marathon, the timing was as crucial as the backdrop. Mr. Kernaghan specializes in heaving mud pies at people who trade on their public image, knowing that some will stick regardless of what turns out to be the truth.
The NLC's problem is they have this super liberal hand-wringing do-gooder obsession but are powerless to implement it. So they try to force unsuspecting victims like Mary-Kate and Ashley to join them by doing dirty tricks like this. Disgusting.
Hmm, if my agenda was to rid the world of neo-communist organizations like the NLC, should I go terrorize Charles Kernaghan's children at their schools to force him to help me?
