The Bottom Line:
New York Minute may indeed be the dumbest movie of the year, and if you go into
the movie hating the Olsen girls, don't expect this to change your mind. If
you're one of the few people with no opinion of them, you might find they're
not so bad, and enjoy this fun, entertaining and sometimes charming movie that
rarely lets up. By its very nature, grown-ups are going to hate everything about
this madcap comedy, but teen girls and the Olsens' fans will surely love it!

Especially unseemly is how the movie keeps showing the girls running around
in towels, robes or, in carefully cropped shots, their birthday suits. The scenes
play like previews of the Olsens' -- I shudder to say -- steamier moves to come.
For now, we have "New York Minute," the cinematic equivalent of Trix. It's just
made to be enjoyed by certain folks more than others.
Will girls like it?
More than their parents.
Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen Face Age 18
If it's a big hit, "New York Minute" could show Hollywood that the Olsen twins are ticket-selling powerhouses like fellow teen stars Lindsay Lohan and Hilary Duff _ but a catastrophic flop could also relegate them to the uncool, forgotten-in-the-toybox status of Barney the purple dinosaur or the Teletubbies.

Olsen twins bet their fame in 'New York Minute'
Consider Angelina Gaspar, a 20-year-old from Visalia, Calif., who traveled
two hours to Los Angeles on April 29 to see Mary-Kate and Ashley get a star
on the Hollywood Walk of Fame:
"I get made fun of, but you know what -- that's fine. Laugh all you want. At
work, I'm the laughingstock of the store right now because I'm here. But you
know what, when I come back I'm going to have pictures, I'm going to have an
autograph, hopefully," said Gaspar, who wore a T-shirt featuring the Olsen sisters
from about age 10.
Smith's 'New York Minute' Twin Dilemmas
I really got tired of wearing the same thing," Smith tells Zap2it.com. "It was nerve-wracking because '24' wanted me to dye my hair a little blonder to be more edgy, and I knew that once I did that I'd be stuck with [the same hair for] this movie as well.
Olsen twins went for Simple Plan in a New York Minute
"...the longest time they've ever been apart was the three weeks attending separate summer camps, and they hated it. 'I signed up for three weeks, which I shouldn't have done because I'd never been before, and it wasn't my thing,' moans Ashley. She left after two weeks. 'At least I tried it.' Camp was no substitute for being with her sister and family."
MKA reps confirm Ashley is single. She has just broken up with boyfriend Matt Kaplan.

lasted only one year after its 2001 introduction. In January 2003, Wal-Mart
started offering the clothing line of teen stars Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen
in extended sizes.
Sales have been lackluster, however, in part because the items were "lost on
a rack of regular sizes," said Judy Swartz, executive designer at the Olsen
twins' company Dualstar Entertainment Group Inc. "The problem is, we still don't
really know who this girl is, so it's been incredibly difficult to find the
right place to put her clothes."

Yes, the girls are getting older -- their fast-approaching 18th birthday is cause for celebration in darker quadrants of the Internet -- but after a string of direct-to-video excursions, this latest film remains an off-putting assault of too-screwball comedy with glints of pathos.
