The world's most famous twins dish on what makes a great room. Chillin' with Mary-Kate & Ashley
It may be messy, marvelous, shared, or a work-in-progress - but it's your room and it rules, right? Even super-rich teens like mary-kate and ashley can relate. Which is one reason these queens of video and fashion and books are now turning theif creative efforts to the bedroom design. They gave Sweet16 the latest scoop.
Sweet16: you already have so many lines of products out there- so what made you want to start a furniture line?
Ashley: there's definitely a need for stylish furniture for younger girls. mary-kate and I wanted a home line that would reflect the same fun, feminine qualities as our fashion and beauty lines.
Sweet16: what did your bedrooms look like when you were growing up?
Ashley: mary-kate and i loved the shabby-chic flea-market look!
Sweet16 : Are you both neatniks when it comes to your bedrooms-or are you more the messy type who leave random stuff all over the place?
Mary-Kate : Keeping our rooms clean is some what of a problem for ashley and me! We're definitely experiencing a little bit of the 'college syndrome'-things stay where they land. With our busy schedules, though, we do our best to keep things in order.
Sweet16: What do your bedrooms look like now?
Ashley : we have both new and antique pieces in our rooms.
Mary-Kate : I'm really into deep red, greens, and golds right now. Ashley likes more neutral tones in her room.
Sweet16 : What music sets the vibe in your rooms?
Ashley : Counting crows, Radiohead, and the rolling stones.
Mary-Kate : oasis, U2, and The Doors.
Sweet16 : Every girl's problem: closet space! How do you deal?
Ashley : My love of fashion makes it difficult to crame everything in my closet! I make a point to go through all my clothes at the beginning of each season and donate stuff i haven't worn in the last year or so. This frees up space for the new season's trends.
Sweet16 : Now that you guys have
separate digs, What will you miss most about living together?
Mary-Kate : It was comforting to know that when I need to talk, my sister was in the next room. but now shes just a phone call away!
