Found no photos of her at the press conference so far, if at all, only some eye witness reporting.
I did find a couple of promo video clips for Weeds season 3 but no Mary-Kate. Wtf? I know what it is, Jenji is thinking, "Mary-Kate is going to own this show, just like the Fonz owned happy days. We know it, everyone knows it. How can we capitalize on this? Easy, we’ll milk her for all she’s worth. We’re not going to show one single photo or clip of her beforehand. If her fans, all 10 billion of them, want to see her they’ll have to see the show when it premieres August 13th. Our ratings will be legendary and I’ll finally get that solid gold Humvee like I always wanted. Score."
Ugh. I’d wager she knows she being used, but she knows she’ll have the last laugh. She’ll use their pointy little heads as stepping stones to bigger and better things. When she leaves she’ll take her audience with her and the show will wither and die on the vine, pun intended.
“It doesn’t feel that weird,” Mary-Kate told critics during the Showtime press conference in Beverly Hills during the summer TV critics press tour. “I’m doing what I love. And I do go on auditions by myself.”
As for creator Jenji Kohan, she looked in mock surprise saying, “I didn’t know she had a sister.”
She joking right?
So after Mary-Kate Olsen left the stage in her impossibly high heels and high-hemmed, big belted blue dress, she hustled away alone _ with me right beside her.
“Mary-Kate, can I ask you a little bit more about your character on `Weeds’? I asked.
Just call me the invisible woman, because she acted as if she was all alone….
She rushed out the front door of the Beverly Hilton, trailing reporters behind her. Her publicist told me that Mary-Kate “Wasn’t taking follow-up questions,” while Mary-Kate herself looked at me with those big Margaret Keane-painting eyes….
Her bodyguards blocked everyone off as she jumped into a limo to be whisked away.
I think this was a matter of "ask me no questions and I will tell you no lies b1tch so f#ck off."
Onto "Weeds," whose cast now includes Mary Kate Olsen, who is so thin she looks nearly transluscent. Also not-quite-there: Her dress, which is riding so far up her thighs now you can see nearly all the way to, quoting Randy Newman now, Argentina….
Mary Kate takes on a question, about whether it’s hard for her to work w/o her sister. No, it isn’t. She seems quite self-possessed….
Funny she should mention Argentina.
The “Weeds” panel just ended, and I figured, okay, how can I not at least try to get a photo of Mary-Kate Olsen? No dice. She was whisked off the premises like she was a Beatle. Surprisingly, Mary Louise Parker evacuated the premises just as rapidly, but at least she was willing to let people put their tape recorders in her face for a minute or two as she walked to her car. Mary-Kate, however, was off like a shot, only stopping long enough to chat with an acquaintance, and, even then, she was swarmed so that you couldn’t get a pic. Dammit…
She knew you had a deal with the Enquirer that’s why, wh0re.
Few celebrities faze grizzled TV critics but it was genuinely weird to see Mary-Kate Olsen on stage as part of the "Weeds" panel.
The actress, who just turned 21, answered more questions than star Mary-Louise Parker. Olsen plays Tara Lindman, whom she described as "a good Christian girl with a twist." Added show creator/exec producer Jenji Kohan about the character: "She’s comfortable in her Christianity and her drug use."
Olsen learned of the role from her agent, auditioned and met with Kohan, who initially had a bit of trepidation about the actress.
"We might have been nervous about her reputation but her performance was wonderful," Kohan said. "We wanted someone good for the part, and we got it."
"I’ve spent the last year going on auditions, acting and working hard," said Olsen, who seemed a bit stunned by the criics’ interest in her being part of the cast. On the difficulty of getting more grown-up roles after a career as a child star, she added: "There will always be my celebrity, but my work speaks for itself."
If she was even allowed to speak in Factory Girl maybe they wouldn’t be so stunned that she can handle adult roles.
All her life has been a stage and every single day she has played her part and played it well. I think she deserves some respect for that.
