>> Mary-Kate and Ashley: The Secret of Their Success

May 3rd, 2007 - Articles, Photos, The Row

Found another new article about The Row at Vogue.co.uk. Ashley impresses with her "intricate knowledge and obvious passion for the cut, fabric, colour and tailoring of each garment."

This proves she and Mary-Kate aren’t just puting their names on someone else’s designs like I’m sure many other celebs cynically do.

The girls continue to be successful at almost everything — perfumes, furniture, clothing for young and old. Their batting average would make Jose Canseco jealous.

How do they succeed over and over where others fail? What’s their secret? Is it because they were on a successful sitcom 20 years ago? That must be it, all child stars become successful businesswomen right? Wrong. Oh I know, it’s because they’re beautiful. Tell that to the drop dead gorgeous waitress/actress the next time she’s serving you.

No, the secret of their success can be summed up in one word: persistence. They work hard every day, month after month, year after year, doing what they love with passion, honesty, integrity and class.

For all who complain that they are not good role models any more, what better role models could anyone want for their children or anyone else for that matter?

TWIN PEAKS

FEW females decorate the best-dressed pages of glossy magazines more than the Olsen twins - so it was no surprise when Mary-Kate and Ashley put their talents to practice and created a line of their own last year.

The Row, a collection of simple knitted cardigans and jackets, thin cotton tanks and shirts plus very well-fitting skinny jeans, is in its second season and the only place to get it will be Harvey Nichols.

"I went to see the collection in Paris," says Joanna Jeffreys, press events and fashion manager at Harvey Nichols, which will exclusively stock the collection from July 25.

"I really didn’t expect the twins themselves to be there but Ashley showed buyers through every single piece. Her intricate knowledge and obvious passion for the cut, fabric, colour and tailoring of each garment was impressive. She and Mary-Kate even modelled some of the clothes for us to show the shapes and fall of the material.

I was incredibly pleased with what we saw - the pieces are very wearable for women with varying shapes and styles. The Row is certainly going to have a prominent position in the store and we’re expecting to sell well."

Top international stores Barneys, 10 Corso Como, Paris’ Maria Luisa and Joyce in Hong Kong obviously agree, since they’ve snapped up the autumn/winter 2007-8 collection too.

"We know ‘elegant’ and ‘comfortable’ are not mutually exclusive," explains Ashley. "From the beginning, our vision for The Row has been nothing short of perfection: a line that makes every woman look her very best, offering extremely high quality, easy-to-wear pieces and combinations that are at once modern and timeless."
