Rich: To tell you the truth, I never thought it irked them as much as you think. Ashley even said in an interview they personally didn’t really mind being called the Olsen twins. They mostly want to be called by their individual names for career puposes.
What they want is the ability to do things separately and that means they need to be thought of as individuals. They said it themselves, they can’t do twin movies all their lives.
Michael: This kind of thing must irk them at least a bit. I recall that when they announced that they wanted to be called by their names, and not, exclusively, “the Olsen Twins” this was actually a controversial thing. Like wanting to have a crumb of individuality, to the extent, simply, of having yourself identified by your given name, was too much for people!
And then to have this sort of idiocy - mis-named and mis-identified in a major media outlet - its like saying “well they don’t count as individuals, no one really CARES which is which…” Well actually its totally depersonalizing - but who cares? They are rich! [the standard answer - they are wealthy, so the rest of “peons’ can get away with anything]….
It must be odd, a bit anyway, to live with the knowledge that many of the people who are aware of you at all, consider you, essentially, half a person….
