We've all been there. The amazingly cute sundress we wore all summer long now has to sit in our closet for at least six months, patiently waiting until it's warm enough to throw it on again. Or does it? The good news about fall is that we can take lots of our summery clothes and turn them into great fall staples. All it takes is a little bit of imagination and a bit of layering. Read on to discover how to turn your summer basics into fall's must haves.

How to Transition Your Summer Wardrobe into FallTIGHTS AND LEGGINGS
The number one way to take that light floral sundress into the cooler months? With tights and leggings, of course! This way, your dress still does the talking but your legs are kept nice and toasty warm. The cool tights and leggings for fall are anything but staid -- think patterns and prints galore! Our faves are definitely all the choices from Look From London Hosiery, like the Potion pair pictured at left ($28 at lookfromlondon.com). They come in tons of different colors, prints and patterns, from floral and polka dot to stripes and stars. Your legs will be begging for these all season long!

BOOTS
Motorcycle. Riding. Flat. Heeled. No matter which way you slice it, boots are the way to fall-ize that summer frock. The taller the better, obviously, since then your legs won't be exposed as temperatures drop. They also just look fabulous with flowy skirts -- the effect is long, lengthened legs and a way of looking sexy while remaining covered up. Worn-in leather boots with stacked heels and buckle details, like the Wanted Bella Boot ($69.50 at delias.com) lend even the floatiest materials a bit of rocker edge.

JACKETS
A great jacket perfectly transitions your hot-weather look into a cool-weather one. But you want one that still shows off that great dress underneath, right? Right! That's why we're totally loving the Pleated Single Button Jacket at left ($24.80 at forever21.com). Its swingy one-button silhouette is just enough to layer over a lightweight dress without making it too heavy or too much. And the heathered grey hue is super-versatile -- it looks good with black, brown, navy, green, red ... pretty much any color under the sun! To top it all off (no pun intended), the pleats down the front are incredibly flattering.

SCARVES
Want to look stylish and keep your neck warm at the same time? Then a scarf is most definitely in order. Celebs from Mary-Kate Olsen to Rachel Bilson rock the scarf every day -- rain or shine, hot or cold -- so you know you'll be in good company. We're totally digging the Eternity Scarf ($28 at urbanoutfitters.com), whose big and slouchy silhouette wraps effortlessly around the neck or can double as a chic headwrap!
