Mary-Kate and Ashley Endorse Help1Up

Help1Up is a charitable service that helps those in need get some free furniture. Wow, so the people who took my furniture and stereo and my iPhone and my iPod and my iDog while I was on vacation were doing it for a good cause? I thought they were burglars! You see how wrong you can be about someone? I think their communication skills need work though -- I didn't see it coming.

Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen and their mary-kateandashley brand announced their endorsement of Help1Up, the home furnishings industry’s free, socially responsible, and environmentally friendly used furniture removal service.

Through a network of dozens of furniture banks, and facilitated by the non-profit National Furniture Bank Association (NFBA), the Help1Up service collects gently used furniture from the general public and provides it directly to children and families in need. Typical recipients of the furnishings are victims of natural disasters like Hurricane Katrina, women and children escaping domestic violence, and working families living below the poverty line.

“Ashley and I are happy to endorse Help1Up,” said Mary-Kate Olsen. “There’s no reason why usable furniture should be thrown away when it can instead provide a family in need with basic comfort and dignity.”

Mary-Kate Beats Ashley

The auction is over and Mary-Kate wins by a zipper.

Ashley: $305

Wtf? I don't get it. How could any one choose one over the other? It must be a clerical error. eBay sucks. Both of those young ladies are equally the sweetest, the most adorable, the hardest working, the most respectable and successful businesswomen I've ever known. I mean that. I wouldn't be doing this web site if I didn't mean that and believe that. I haven't changed my opinion about them one iota to this very day.

So I don't care. As any competent mathematician would tell you, this is a statistical draw. They both won. And are still, both, equally desired, and equally loved by their family, their friends, their fans, and of course, by me. <3

Webster, NY - What do Abby Wambach, Phil Mickelson, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, Jim Boeheim and Chuck Mangione have in common?

Besides being successful in their respective fields, they're also contributors to the second Christopher's Challenge CYP Basketball Tournament, a three-day event that combines hoops, auction items and bone marrow drives.

This year's tournament runs Friday to Jan. 9 at St. John Fisher College and the Webster Field House near R.L. Thomas High School.

Among the items up for grabs this year: a soccer ball autographed by Olympian and Mercy High graduate Abby Wambach; signed photographs from Cal Ripken Jr. and pro golfer Mickelson; a basketball signed by the Syracuse University Orange; a video and CD autographed by the Olsen twins; a T-shirt, program and team photo provided by the Duke women's basketball team; various autographed items sent in by the Rochester Red Wings; and two shirts courtesy of Mangione, the award-winning jazz artist.

According to Kathy Costello the autographed video and cd is "When In Rome."

Olsens caught buying wine

Contactmusic.com - Teen actresses MARY-KATE and ASHLEY OLSEN hit a stumbling block when they bought a wine package gift at a recent auction - they were too young to legally pay for the alcohol.

The 18-year-old screen star twins attended the SCLERODERMA RESEARCH FOUNDATION benefit at Caroline's On Broadway comedy club in New York on 8 November (04), which was hosted by former FULL HOUSE TV presenter BOB SAGET.

And the pair enthusiastically bid for a gift for their dad DAVID - a "Best of Napa Valley" package, which included a firstclass flight for two to San Francisco, a luxurious stay at the Valley's Carneros Inn and 10 bottles of wine.

But as the legal age for alcohol consumption in the US is 21, a representative for the foundation called David Olsen, who offered to pay the $58,000 (GBP32,000) for the prize himself.

Representative CHARLES SPAULDING says, "We'll deliver it directly to him. It was our biggest donation of the evening."

Olsens bid $56,000 at auction for charity

Nytimes.com - The Scleroderma Research benefit at Caroline's on Broadway on Monday night was the opening event for the New York Comedy Festival, and many comics were there: BOB SAGET, the evening's M.C.; ROBERT KLEIN and LEWIS BLACK, both of whom performed; CONAN O'BRIEN; PEE WEE HERMAN; and TINA FEY.

We also saw ASHLEY and MARY-KATE OLSEN, who played Mr. Saget's daughters on "Full House" and are now the most famous freshmen at N.Y.U. The twins are but 18, which means their legal drinking age is more than 2½ years away. But that did not stop them from bidding on a Best of Napa Valley wine package during the benefit auction. This flustered the auctioneer, Mr. Saget, their former TV dad.

The bidding started at $30,000 and topped out at $56,000. During the whole of the $26,000 spread, Mr. Saget did not directly acknowledge the Olsen bids.

It reminded us of a father who says nothing when his daughter breaks curfew; he is just hoping that she doesn't come home pregnant.

Mr. O'Brien, as the hip uncle, spotted their bids from the other side of the stage and reported them over the microphone.

The Olsens were outbid.

But thanks a lot, Uncle Conan.
