The release party for the DVD of Bob's new movie "Farce of the Penguins" was bittersweet after he learned of his father's death during the event.
February 1, 2007 -- WHILE promoting his new DVD, "Farce of the Penguins," comic Bob Saget learned his father, Ben Saget, had passed away. He got the tragic news after taping Conan O'Brien's show Tuesday afternoon. Saget - the writer, director, and voice of the penguin Carl - finished his day's work with a promo party at Tenjune, which Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen attended. Sagat's rep told Page Six he flew back to L.A. yesterday morning to be with his mom.
I remember when my father died. I received a call from my friend Chip that something was happening at my parents home. He lived across the street and saw an ambulance arrive. I was living with my fiancé at the time a few miles away. My mother said my father couldn't catch his breath and soon went unconscious. They took him to the hospital but they couldn't save him. They let us see him one last time but it wasn't pretty. He lay on a gurney with a tube in his mouth. My mother looked and turned away. Later she said, "At least I have my children." I don't cry easily but I cried then.
I'm sure Ben Saget was the proudest father in the world. His son turned out good. Very good.

Quite sad indeed. Having the Olsens around must remind him that he has a tv family on top of his biological one, and how blessed he is with that. Condolences.
My sympathy also goes out to the Sagets. I liked your introductory statement about your own father Michael. When my dad died I was on a noon to midnight shift at work. I came home around 12:30 a.m. and found him stone-cold and not breathing in his chair. I knew right away he was gone. I called 911 and my most immediate family members (3). I was talking to my partner at work about ghosts that night too. Weird! I wasn’t really close to my parents in ways; but in other ways I know we were very close. So my feelings when I found my dad passed-away in his chair like that were both profoundly sad and confused. I was kinda happy that he was going to a “better place” though! Happy for him while sad for myself (sad about “my” loss)! He was a heavy smoker all his life and the last few years he could hardly breathe (or take a few steps)! He wasn’t really enjoying life so; like I say, I was kinda happy for him! It made my life harder though. Being all on my own was (IS) hard to get used to. Sincerely; An MK&A Fan Forever, Rick Morris

I feel so sorry for him and that was really sad Michael =(..i know how it feels..it also reminds me when my Grandfather died. He was really close to me,he’s like my Bestfriend..so,when he died..i didnt cry right away,cause i don’t really express my true feelings with my family but i do really love my Grandfather so,after a few minutes i cried and that time i can’t stop crying, that’s the 1st time i cry so hard =’(
