New York Minute a Failure? Maybe. NOT!

As you can see from the graph below, if you compare New York Minute to other recent movies of similar cost then it doesn't look so bad. New York Minute did as well (or as badly) as they did.  And those other movies had proven stars. Even with Robert De Niro, Mathew Perry, Ben Stiller and Jack Black, there's no guarantee of box office success.

Title Starring Cost (mil) Total Premiere BO (mil)
New York Minute Mary-Kate and Ashley 30 6.00
THE WHOLE TEN YARDS Mathew Perry 40 6.70
THE ALAMO Dennis Quaid Billy Bob Thornton 107 9.20
ENVY Ben Stiller and Jack Black 40 6.10
GODSEND Robert De Niro 25 6.80
LAWS OF ATTRACTION Julianne Moore and Pierce Brosnan 32 6.70

So assuming it's not the stars that people didn't like with these movies, just the movie itself, I think there's hope that Mary-Kate and Ashley could take the chance and try again. They just miscalculated on what the the older audiences wanted. I don't think their movie careers are over folks. They've had failures in the past and it didn't stop them. This won't either.

With domestic, foreign, dvd, and merchandise sales, at worst New York Minute will break even and at best might even make a modest profit. So New York Minute is not a disaster. With a new rethinking of the direction they should go with their next effort, they can succeed. They aren't quitters. As Mary-Kate must of done many times, they will get right back up on that horse and try again.
